As promised in a previous post, here's a (necessarily) brief update on exactly what has made this blog a content-free zone the past five years. (I also simultaneously published a post about my family during the same time period.) Follow along below the fold.
I unfortunately lost my job as the result of two health issues. They had no choice, honestly, but I'm finally addressing said health issue, starting several weeks ago. I have a long way to go (this is the worst job market I've ever seen), but I've started the long climb back and will make it.
In the bullet point above I alluded to a chronic health issue I've been dealing with over the past two years. It's actually one of two health issues that are a tag team when it comes to my overall health. This one, while serious and requiring constant vigilance, fortunately isn't life threatening on its own.
Unfortunately, I'm also dealing a far more dangerous and potentially lethal issue that came to a head over the past several weeks. Without going into details, I was in a dark, dark place, but thankfully, after a harrowing 24 hours, I'm doing much, much better. I have a long way to go, but I genuinely feel the worst is behind me. I'm taking the necessary steps to ensure it never happens again (and if it does to take the steps needed to nip it in the bud).
Again, I'm reluctant to go into any more detail, but I would not have believed you less than three weeks if you told me I would be where I am today - literally and figuratively. I owe a debt of gratitude to my mother, my sister, my nephew, his fiancee, her mother, and the best friends a person could possibly hope for. I love you all; thank you again for all you do.
You can hopefully tell that things are on the upswing in my life. I'm currently staying with my friend F, who has kindly let me use his guest room the next few weeks while I take the next steps in my journey. Part of that is writing to help me process everything. I have been in a sustained writing frenzy the likes of which I cannot recall. I have a number of posts written and ready to go, and several others I simply need to transpose from my handwritten draft into Blogger. I hope to finish them in the next day or so, then return my focus to the final autobiographical post I had been avoiding for, well, years and years. It's about 40% written, if all goes well, I hope to finish it by the end of next weekend. Watch this space; I think it will be worth the wait (she said semi-confidently).

A few tunes to listen to while digesting this latest missive. First, another track from The Kinks, one of my most beloved bands - "Better Things":
And here are two songs from another beloved favorite band of mine, Big Country. First a live version of their classic, "In A Big Country" (with a code of "Auld Lang Syne") from New Years Eve 1983:
And finally, a terrific single from their 1984 EP of the same name - "Wonderland":
Hope you enjoy the soundtrack, and I will see you soon. Also, the above photo was taken ten years to the day up in Toronto by my friend A. As you can see, my cow obsession has long had its hold on me. 🙂 Until next time then...
