Musings: My Letter To Me

Friday, April 24, 2026

As promised/threatened in the initial post of Cassidy's Quest: The Reboot, I'm going to make an effort to write on a regular basis again. This is a short one, the result of a recent writing exercise in which I took part. The assignment: write a letter of compassion/like/love to yourself. I decided to do something a bit different and write a letter from pre-transition me to myself, Cassidy. Here's what he/I had to say. 🙂

Still Still Here (a/k/a A Few Recent Pics)

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Yes, I'm still here. :D And there really *is* a long, long post coming. Honestly! Once it's done all will be clear. Promise. :c) In the meantime, here's... well, more of me. lol

Just some random artists for your listening pleasure... or *are* they?!?!? Hmmm... :D

An April Update

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Hi all! Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and a nice week up to this point.

I also hope it's warmer than it is here; it was 3 F - yes, 3 - when I got up this morning. They are predicting normal temperatures (in the upper 30s/low 40s) here for the end of the week - before the *next* cold siege invades. Sigh.

At her request, I just wanted to give folks an update on my partner-in-crime, April, from My Road to Womanhood.

(For those of us like moi who are easily confused, this is April:)

As some of you may have noticed - and several girls have contacted me privately in the past week or so - April's blog is currently marked as invitation-only. People are concerned, wondering if all is well in April's little corner of the world.

Well, I am here to reveal what has been going behind the scenes: Daniel Craig and Roger Moore have been lavishing April with kisses and affection on a round-the-clock basis as they attempt to pitch woo and win her heart.

OK, I made that last paragraph up. Follow below the fold to find out how she really is doing. :c)

(Hint: it's good news!)

Magic and Loss

Sunday, November 3, 2013

This was another of those posts that seemed to write itself.

They seem to happen from time to time; in fact, one arrived, unbidden, last week. I have learned to simply get out of the way and let them go where they will.

It began as a light-hearted reply to Jenna's comment on my previous post, about her sudden interest in all things Red Sox.

(Jenna, all I can say is that you are now a citizen of Red Sox Nation. Welcome! Oh, and please - try not to get any tobacco stains on the clubhouse furniture, OK?)

But then, mysteriously, it turned into something more.

It was soon about baseball.

And Lou Reed.

And community.

How did all of those widely disparate things come together?

Follow along, and discover as I did.

And Lo, A Dissenting Voice Is Heard...

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Well, as it turns out, at least one reader is somewhat dissatisfied with the musical selections in my last post.

How dissatisfied, you ask? To the point that she has threatened to inflict physical harm on your humble, jazz-loving scribe.

Well, OK, not her personally, but her tough friends. ("I don't want to break a nail.")

I can only imagine that in her childhood said reader endured a trauma similar to that of Homer Simpson's least favorite neighbor, Ned Flanders:

In light of such hardship, I can only remove my beret, don yet more black clothing, and offer what small solace I can with some non-beatnik-related musical stylings.

Casa de Cass: It's done!

Saturday, November 10, 2012

I am in!!! I'm completely exhausted... but I don't care. :c)

The move went as smoothly as one could hope. T and J very kindly came by to help. We also found my new favorite restaurant, which is literally across the street. (I think I'm getting breakfast there tomorrow, in fact.) The staff there all said I would love the neighborhood; I think they're right. :c)

There's also a great muffin shop  a few blocks away, and what looks like a great bakery around the corner.

Just going to finish this, take a shower, eat my dinner, and then, at long last, sleep in my own bed.

I think I'm going to like my new digs. :c)

While unpacking I listened to one of my favorite Neil Young albums, 1978's Comes A Time. Although Nicolette Larson had a major hit with it, the gorgeous "Lotta Love" was written by Neil:

Here's the title track:

HRT: Six Months (a/k/a A Developing Situation)

Saturday, May 19, 2012

Whoa. It's hard to believe it's six months already. As I said about the one year anniversary of my decision to transition, it simultaneously seems as if it's both eons ago and this instant.

Wasn't That A Mighty Storm?

Saturday, August 27, 2011

While ordinarily I'd be happy to welcome another gal to the neighborhood, I hope Irene decides to make her visit a short one. :c)

With that in mind, here are a few tunes to help pass the time.

Maybe the best b-side ever (and some incredible drumming from Ringo):

Ol' Neil:

Some classic CCR:

And to close it out, "The Storm," from one of my desert island discs, Big Country's The Crossing:

Stay safe all!

I'm So Tired...

Monday, July 18, 2011

Not TG-related, and not about being down/depressed;  I'm just, well... tired. :c) It's also an excuse to post some Neil Young and some Beatles, which is always a good thing.

I'm definitely looking forward to some down time soon. It's been a busy few months, it's really hot and humid, and I haven't taken any time off since March 2010. Oh, and I also decided to transition. Other than that, your standard summer. :c)

Luckily I have a month of vacation time to use, so I have options. I just have to figure out when to take it & where (if anywhere) to go. I'm taking a few days off the week after next, as some friends are in town for a big music weekend. Then I can figure out when/where I want to go. It's a nice problem, in other words.

Happy Monday, and stay cool!
