April Is Back, Part III: Her Latest Posts (a/k/a Resistance Is Futile)

Sunday, March 30, 2014

Hi all! It is Cassidy again, in my guise as Spokesgal for April, Governess of All She Surveys.

April is doing well and happily blogging away. However, Blogger seems determined to prevent others from knowing this. For some reason her new posts are *not* appearing on T-Central, nor do they turn up on the list of blogs for those of us who officially follow her.

We are currently working to defeat the Borg (i.e. Blogger), and will succeed because… well, because Girl Power. Need I say more? :D

But in the meantime, I'm just going to post links to her new posts so folks on T-Cental  know she is indeed blogging away in the Great White North.

Here are her two newest posts - both well worth reading, it goes without saying:

Redux

Beautiful Darling

Stay tuned for more from the pen of April!

A few tunes from a wonderful artist I know both April and I really enjoy - Marshall Crenshaw, First up, "Cynical Girl":

Here he is making his network television debut on David Letterman in 1982:

Both of those are from his self-titled debut in 1982, which is simply magnificent. It really doesn't get any better than that!

And here's my personal favorite - "Whenever You're On My Mind":

It simply boggles the mind that this wasn't a hit in 1983. It is such a great song! And the video is absolutely charming too. :c)

Pale, Blue Eyes

Friday, March 28, 2014

Hello all. Hope everyone is ready for the weekend. I know I am. I've been enduring my semi-annual bout with the flu since last Saturday. The bug that is going around now is a particularly nasty one. I basically slept all day from Saturday through early Tuesday afternoon (I missed two days of work).

I was feeling well enough - or, alternately, was still not thinking clearly enough lol - to keep my electrolysis appointment on Tuesday evening. My electrologist snapped a quick photo of me in her waiting room:

Yes, I really am that pale. :D Well, in this picture it's really just her doing a terrific job of capturing the late afternoon sunlight - and trying to do her best with her "model." lol

Incidentally, you can glimpse my (relatively) new teal and black dress - and my bra strap. :#) As April has told me, I guess I really am a shameless hussy!

And on that note, folks, I bid you all a pleasant Friday. Enjoy the weekend!!!

I've posted this before, but it's so good I'm doing it again: Alejandro Escovedo's moving cover of the Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes":

You say you need to induce goosebumps? Well, here you go:

How is this man not a household name, I ask you? Just an amazing artist. I could use different Alejandro Escovedo songs in my posts for the next year and not come close to exhausting his catalogue of great songs. He is a national treasure...

April Is Back, Part II (a/k/a Follow You, Follow Me)

Sunday, March 23, 2014

Greetings and salutations, all. It is I, Cassidy, Official Spokesgirl for Miss April (above), Goddess of the Blogosphere.

I am writing to let everyone know that April, with a small assist from yours truly, managed to overcome fierce resistance from Blogger and add back the ability for her adoring public to follow her every utterance.

In English: Blogger is messing around with the gadgets you can add to your blog, such as Followers, Subscribe, and so on. But even Blogger will inevitably succumb to the awesomeness that is Girl Power, especially a double dosage. Bottom line: girls rule!

So, head on over to April's new digs and use the Followers section to join April as her journey continues. You can count on the rides being awesome. :D

A few a propos songs, courtesy of a band that hails from the land from whence our April comes.

I love pretty much everything Genesis did from the Peter Gabriel era up through the Abacab/Three Sides Live albums in the early Eighties. The Genesis album in 1983 had some great songs ("Mama" in particular), but they lost me after that. Just too slick for this girl's tastes.

But damn, they can play! Phil Collins is one of the great drummers, but he is routinely overlooked when you see lists of top drummers compiled. Just check out his work with Brand X, a jazz fusion side project he co-founded in the late Seventies, if you need proof of his bonafides:

And here he duets live with Chester Thompson, who hared the drum chair with Collins when Genesis played live. As you will see, he isn't exactly a slouch on drums himself:

See what I mean?!? I'm off to ice down my wrists just from watching that!

Musings: Face the Face

Saturday, March 22, 2014

Hi kids! Hope everyone had a nice week, and is enjoying the weekend.

I am worn out from a long week. Not in a bad way… just busy. And also from my last two electrolysis sessions.

Well, they turned out be mostly laser sessions, actually, with a bit of electrolysis thrown in at the end.

Follow below the fold for details of my latest electrifying adventures.

(Get it? :D)

April Is Back!!!

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Hi folks! Just a quick post to let you all know that your favorite blogstress, April, has torn herself away from her latest French millionaire suitor to start her blog up again. Yea!!!

She has moved into more upscale digs, however, which you can find here:

http://myroadredux.blogspot.ca/2014/03/im-back-baby.html

She asked me to let everyone know that she is redecorating it in a fashion that becomes her (insert your own joke here - I already did ;D), but for now it is bare bones.

More seriously, she asked me to thank everyone for their concern the past few months while her blog was down. At least two or three people a week would contact me to ask how she was doing and send their best wishes. She is grateful.

And so am I, frankly. Being her secretary is NOT an easy gig. Running to Tim Horton's in five-inch heels each time Her Highness needed a caffeine boost does a job on the ol' ankles, let me tell you…

Anyway please join me in welcoming back our Miss April! It's great to have you back, sweetie!!!

I teased her earlier this evening that I was going to use this song as the title from this post, but you know how sensitive those Canadian chicks are (how do they play hockey when they're so weepy, anyway?!?). Instead, I shall post it here without comment. :D

This also gives me a chance to post this remarkable solo version of "Tiny Dancer" from 1971.

Still gives me goosebumps every single time I watch this. :c) SUCH a great song...

Vignettes: Red Velvet vs. Cupcake

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Greetings, folks! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. :c)

I have a few longer posts in the works (yes, still), but I wanted to share a brief story with you from this past weekend.

I was near the end of a lengthy walk when two friends called to ask if I wanted to meet them for dinner. I was only about 15 minutes away by foot, and it's a casual (albeit very nice) restaurant, so I simply went straight there and had a cup of coffee to warm up while waiting for them.

I was checking my messages when I noticed a mother and her young daughter, probably about seven or eight years old, looking in my direction. A minute or two later I glanced their way again, and, once again, they were looking my way.

They weren't staring, nor were they being rude, so I assumed they read me and shrugged it off, as I do when that happens. (It's usually on a day like yesterday, when I haven't shaved to get ready for my next electrolysis appointment.) I know who I am, I like who I am, and I'm still changing, both physically and emotionally, and that is all that really matters.

Just as I saw my friends drive past and head for the parking lot about a block away, I noticed that the little girl and her mother put on their coats and head towards my table on their way to the door. I had gone back to reading my text messages, when I realized they were standing next to me. I looked up and smiled at them.

"I'm sorry if we were being impolite, miss," the mother said. "But my daughter and I were both admiring your hair."

:#)

I laughed (and blushed), thanked them, and rightfully gave the credit to my stylist.

The little girl then spoke.

"Miss, I told my mom that your hair looks like red velvet cupcakes - and those are my *favorite* ones in the world!" lol

I laughed again and thanked her, adding that I was flattered to hear that.

"You're welcome," she said.

She then eyed me critically for a moment.

"It's a good look for you, you know."

lol

I immediately offered to hire her as my fashion adviser. She was game, but her mother gently suggested to both of us that she needed to finish third grade first. :c)

And thus went that part of my weekend!

Postscript: As you would imagine, I promptly texted April with the entire story.

Her immediate reply?

"Great! Red Velvet can be your porn name. :D"

While that certainly is an option, I noted that I think I preferred "Cupcake." Not as my porn name, of course, just in general. For some reason it appealed to me; maybe it fits my personality?

In any event, I hope your week is filled with culinary delights of whatever sort you most enjoy. Have a lovely week, everyone!

Nothing to do with the theme of this post; just a performance from Hurray for the Riff-Raff, one of my favorite new bands. Their new album is wonderfully addictive. Hope you like this!

Coffeebean…

Cassidy Coffeebean.

Thank you to April for making my day! xoxoxo

(Since I am now an admitted shopaholic, I immediately asked April if the shoes were cute. Her reply: "Nah." My search for cuteness continues...)

Some Southern rock for today's soundtrack:

Happy Friday, everyone!!!

One Step Ahead

Sunday, March 9, 2014

Hi everyone. Hope you are all enjoying the weekend.

It's been a long, tiring week here, for reasons I would prefer not to go into. Some work-related, some personal, some family, and others just general weariness. This has been an endless, brutal winter, and it has taken a toll. Hopefully I will shake the blahs/doldrums in short order.

Rather than dwell on the negatives, I will briefly mention a few positive things that have taken place recently.

An April Update

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Hi all! Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and a nice week up to this point.

I also hope it's warmer than it is here; it was 3 F - yes, 3 - when I got up this morning. They are predicting normal temperatures (in the upper 30s/low 40s) here for the end of the week - before the *next* cold siege invades. Sigh.

At her request, I just wanted to give folks an update on my partner-in-crime, April, from My Road to Womanhood.

(For those of us like moi who are easily confused, this is April:)

As some of you may have noticed - and several girls have contacted me privately in the past week or so - April's blog is currently marked as invitation-only. People are concerned, wondering if all is well in April's little corner of the world.

Well, I am here to reveal what has been going behind the scenes: Daniel Craig and Roger Moore have been lavishing April with kisses and affection on a round-the-clock basis as they attempt to pitch woo and win her heart.

OK, I made that last paragraph up. Follow below the fold to find out how she really is doing. :c)

(Hint: it's good news!)
