A Letter To You

As promised/threatened in the initial post of Cassidy's Quest: The Reboot, I'm going to make an effort to write on a regular basis again. This is a short one, the result of a recent writing exercise in which I took part. The assignment: write a letter of compassion/like/love to yourself. I decided to do something a bit different and write a letter from pre-transition me to myself, Cassidy. Here's what he/I had to say. 🙂

Hey Cass!

This is L, a/k/a pre-transition you. It's so great to connect with you, girl! It's been a long time, hasn't it? I'm not sure if you think of me often, but I sure think about you.

I have to tell you: I am so proud of you! Remember where you were on that day in April 2021when you called M for the first time to make an appointment? Do you remember what your first words were? "My name is L. And I'm transgender."

That was the hardest thing you ever did - and the best. And look where you are now. Can you believe how far you've come? I always knew what you could do if you simply gave yourself a chance. And you did. All those years I did my best to protect you as best I could. And this is what I hoped for all those years.

So... give yourself a giant virtual hug from me, Cass. I'm proud of you, and I hope you're proud of yourself as well. Way to go, girl!!!
